Decolonising Bundoora Park

Bundoora Park was an important gathering place for Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people and includes scar trees, quarries, wetlands and traditional foraging grounds.

The Decolonising Bundoora Park – Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Truth Telling Project aims to put the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung story back on Country, in the voice of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.

Truth-Telling Display at Bundoora Homestead Arts Centre

A truth-telling display located at Bundoora Homestead launched in 2023, teaching audiences about the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung history of the area and the Homestead.

The Truth-Telling space is a project led by Elders and Representatives of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, in collaboration with Darebin Council. We invite you to learn more about living Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung culture, and the complex history of Bundoora Park.

The display also explores the stories of Bundoora Homestead’s more recent history as a family home, a convalescent farm for returned servicemen and a repatriation hospital.

This important community resource acknowledges and pays respect to the immense legacies of those who came before us.

Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Mural

In August 2025, Darebin Council was proud to unveil a prominent new mural at Bundoora Park, designed and installed by Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung artist and cultural consultant, Alex Kerr.

Following on from the Bundoora Homestead Truth-Telling display, this new mural continues to tell the story of the past, present and future Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people and their continuing connection to Country at Bundoora.

This project is led by Elders and Representatives of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, in collaboration with Darebin Council.

The mural is accessible via the Bundoora Park Farm main entrance. Please ask a staff member for directions if you're unsure.
