A chance for primary school students from across Darebin to learn about Aboriginal culture and history from Aboriginal Elders and groups.

The Darebin Schools NAIDOC Yarning Conference is a chance for primary school students to learn about Aboriginal culture and history, directly from Aboriginal Elders and organisations.

Held every year in October, the conference picks up the annual NAIDOC Week theme and transforms it into a fun and powerful learning journey for students from primary schools across Darebin.

From learning language, to caring for Country, to truth-telling, to dance, to art, to music, to taking action and so much more, Aboriginal Elders and community leaders take students on a fun and powerful learning journey, to become leaders and change makers themselves, with each year’s NAIDOC theme guiding the way.

In 2023 the Darebin Schools' NAIDOC Yarning Conference theme was For our Elders a call to recognise the role Elders play in communities and families. Elders are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and loved ones.
