Cultural Diversity Oration

A talk by renowned journalist and author, George Megalogenis on the challenges and opportunities faced by Australia's multicultural society.

The Darebin Intercultural Centre is proud to present this Cultural Diversity Oration in conjunction with the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

Come along and listen to the challenges and opportunities presented by Australia’s multicultural society in a talk by renowned journalist and author George Megalogenis.

Known for his insightful and thought-provoking commentary on local and global politics, economics and culture, Megalogenis is a captivating and informative speaker. The Oration will explore themes related to both the richness of the world’s cultures and the essential role of cultural dialogue in achieving peace and sustainable development. Megalogenis will consider the implications of cultural diversity on social cohesion and social justice, the similarities and differences between interculturalism and multiculturalism, and the changing demographics of Australian society and the ‘Australian’ identity.

The oration will be followed by a live music performance and light snacks.


George Megalogenis

George Megalogenis was born in Melbourne in 1964 and went on to study economics at the University of Melbourne. He is an author, journalist and political commentator with three decades experience in the media, including with The Australian, The Age, and eleven years in the Canberra Press Gallery. His book, The Australian Moment, won the 2013 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for non-fiction and the 2012 Walkley Award for non-fiction, and formed the basis for his ABC documentary series Making Australia Great. George is also the author of Faultlines, The Longest Decade, Australia’s Second Chance, and Balancing Act, which contains his two Quarterly Essays, No. 40: Trivial Pursuit – Leadership and the End of the Reform Era and No. 61: Balancing Act – Australia Between Recession and Renewal.
