World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

June
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) falls on June 15 each year.

Here in Darebin, we have been supporting World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) over the last 6 years and will be doing the same in 2023.

Elder abuse is mistreatment of an older person committed by someone the older person has a relationship of trust with - such as a partner, family member, friend or carer. It may be physical, social, financial, psychological or sexual and can include mistreatment and neglect.

Elder maltreatment can lead to serious physical injuries and long-term psychological consequences. June 15 represents the main day in the year when we join the world in voicing our opposition to the abuse and suffering inflicted on older people and celebrate older members of our community.
