New Intercultural Centre Opens

"Welcoming to everyone": New Darebin Intercultural Centre

Darebin’s diverse community has a brand-new space, with the purpose-built Darebin Intercultural Centre opening in the heart of Preston.

Designed in partnership with Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Traditional Owners and members of Darebin’s diverse community, you can find the new Intercultural Centre on the corner of High and Gower streets, in former Council office spaces now transformed for community use.

The new Centre is a place where people from across the community can meet and build respect and understanding for each other’s cultures, through conversation, planned programs and events.

Darebin Ethnic Communities Council Chairperson Nalliah Suriyakumaran says the new Intercultural Centre is “vital”. “In Darebin we are creating a community that comes together and is engaged, where people feel comfortable and included,” Nalliah says.

“The new Centre is welcoming to everyone and this is the way forward.”

Darebin Mayor, Councillor Julie Williams is pleased to welcome the community to this exciting new space.

“The Darebin Intercultural Centre represents a significant step forward in fostering inclusion and understanding among people from diverse cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds,” Cr Williams says.

“The Centre is a shining example of celebrating diversity to create a more inclusive, compassionate, and harmonious world and to help build stronger, more connected communities.”

We welcome everyone to come in, connect and enjoy this exciting new community space.
