Darebin Arts wins big at the 40th Green Room Awards!

Darebin Arts and artists involved in 2022 productions took out five awards at the 40th Annual Green Room Award this year.

On Monday 29 May 2023, Melbourne artists gathered at the Capitol Theatre to celebrate the 40th Annual Green Room Awards, recognising the achievements of the arts across all disciplines.

This year, the 40th Green Room Awards - Melbourne’s premier peer-presented, performing arts industry awards recognising outstanding achievements in productions from Cabaret, Contemporary & Experimental Performance, Dance, Independent Theatre, Music Theatre, Opera and Theatre Companies - recognised Darebin Arts and the artists involved in productions in 2022 with 16 nominations across 5 categories.

The spectacular night resulted in the following 5 wins for artists supported by Darebin Arts:

Contemporary and experimental performance: Work for children and young families

An Uncertain Time presented by Sarah Austin & Co as part of FUSE Darebin Festival

Independent theatre: Best production and direction

Paradise Lost presented by Bloomshed in association with Darebin Arts Speakeasy

Independent theatre: Best lighting design

John Collopy for Paradise Lost presented by Bloomshed in association with Darebin Arts Speakeasy

Independent theatre: Best set and costume

Nathan Burmeister for Paradise Lost presented by Bloomshed in association with Darebin Arts Speakeasy

The breadth of nominations and wins testify to the integral contribution Darebin’s arts programs (including Speakeasy, FUSE and council arts venues) make to Melbourne’s artistic landscape in supporting artists recovering from COVID-19 restrictions.
