Running a business from home

You can run a business from home without a planning permit if you meet the home occupation requirements of the Darebin planning scheme.

If you don't meet these home occupation requirements, please contact our Planning Department on 03 8470 8850 between 8:45am and 4:45pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

Starting or changing a business

If you're planning to start a new business, or change or relocate an existing business, you may need a planning permit.

To find out if you need a planning permit, please contact our Planning Department on 03 8470 8850 between 8:45am and 4:45pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

In deciding whether to issue a planning permit for a new business, we may consider if:

the proposed business is suitable for the location
the impacts on the surrounding and nearby properties are reasonable
there are sufficient car parking and bicycle facilities.

Pre-application meeting

Pre-application meetings are for people who intend to lodge a planning permit application. You can meet with our planning staff prior to lodgement for advice and assistance in the preliminary stages of the planning and design process.
